After repelling several counter-attacks from the Russian MSV, the South East coast of Kintyre is decidedly secured. The next phase of the operation involves pushing through the Southern Mountain range of Kintyre and into the central plains, where the main regional capital and port of Campbeltown is located and it’s Airport.

In order to maintain any offensive operations in the central plains, the main route into it, MSR Hauberk, must be secured. Zulu-Alpha has been tasked with spearheading this operation to secure this MSR and co-ordinating friendly assets to this end.

    A. Enemy Forces:

Taskforce Hammer of the Marine core has conducted several reconnaissance missions and have identified that the Russian MSV has set up several defensive lines, made up of remnants of their failed counter-attacks, with some reinforcements. Observers from Hammer have tallied up their forces based on movement into and around the MSR defensive lines to be a reinforced mechanized infantry company, consisting of about 2 infantry platoons garrisoning key structures along the MSR, an MBT platoon and 2 mechanized platoons in entrenched positions. They have also observed 1 motorized anti-tank platoon and another MBT platoon in reserve, likely to be deployed in reaction to an attack.

They also are expected to have mortar support, possible fixed-wing or helicopter gunship support from the nearby Airport, as well as UAV surveillance.

Recon has identified that the two most forward strongholds of the Russian defensive lines to be a firebase at Castle Knockstapple, and a makeshift forward outpost at the start of the MSR.

Recon has identified two main defensive lines designed to repel heavy attack and HQ has marked them as Phase lines Alpha and Bravo. Recon has also observed that the MSR and a side road at the phase lines to be mined with Anti-tank mines.

US Forces have been unable to achieve complete air superiority due to an intact SA-20 in the central plains, thus restricting air operation to nap-of-the-earth flight and stealth aircraft. The SA-20 has detection range against stealth Aircraft of at least 5KM. There is also 1 or 2 SA-19s operating in the North, but are mobile and usually have their radars turned off, so their current positions are unknown. The enemy also has a small number MANPADs, though not as many as is usually expected.

Expect the two defensive lines to have a heavy infantry presence in the buildings and forests, and to have entrenched enemy armour and heavy weapons over-looking expected avenues of approach.

    B. Friendly Forces:

Zulu-Alpha is located at FOB Anvil, along with support vehicles, and Attached Ghostrider with an MH-60L DAP and Badger with 2x M2A3 Bradleys.

Taskforce Hammer has secured a forward FOB, called FOB Smith and put a mechanized infantry section (2x LAV-25 and infantry dismounts) under the command of Zulu-Alpha.

Zulu-Alpha has been given priority fires from a 155mm M109 Paladin, call-sign Haymaker.

The USS Freedom Carrier Battle Group (CBG) is now operating in the area, but air support is limited to stealth aircraft due to the anti-air threat and has dedicated an F/A-181, call-sign Reaper to Zulu-Alpha.

    3. General Instructions

Using artillery support, CAS and the help of Hammer, advance and secure Phase lines Alpha and Bravo, proceeding no further than Limit of Advance (LoA) Charlie.

Either bypass or de-mine the MSR. Thorough clearance of every building in the valley and every mine is not necessary, but rather to the extent that the movement of friendly vehicles along the MSR be unimpeded.

    None

    Meta-Mission details:

    Special Requirements:

All Dragon and Badger team leaders and the XO have high command functionally, which is needed to command the Hammer section, which is two separate groups of single vehicles and dismounts which can be individually controlled.

Haymaker uses the same chat system used in the Recce mission ‘Top Hat’:

Request fire mission with `requesting fire mission grid xxxxyyyy x rounds`, adjust fire with `adjust fire xx meters north/south/east/west`, or ‘repeat x rounds’

It can be used by anyone. Note that it only has 32 rounds of HE availabe.

The SA-20 has the advertised detection range of 5Km only if the radar of the F/A-181 is turned off, and even then has some randomness.
