Scheduled for Sunday 20 February 2021

    1. SITUATION

    Situation Time: 22:00L 20 April 2019

    Lighting: 3/4 moon

Weather: Partly cloudy, scattered showers, unlimited visibility.

A Chinook (Callsign Wraith) carrying advanced equipment and weapons (navigation, optical, communication and designation equipment, along with Javelins) and crewed by 3, was flying in those supplies to local forces in the Mull of Kintyre before hostilities with the Russians flared up. While in transit, the Russians became hostile and shot the helicopter down, with the last transmission from the pilot indicating a possible autorotation landing in the area NE of Amod hill, within a valley flanked by mountains and forests.

The pilots need to be rescued, and the equipment onboard destroyed. Fortunately, there is a clandestine vessel, the MF Hanks, which is a former civilian ferry repurposed for special operations, is being converted into a makeshift FARP. the Hanks, is only several KM off the SW coast of the Mull of Kintyre. Zulu-Alpha has been dispatched there for a rescue operation.

    A. Enemy Forces:

The Mull of Kintyre is not considered a front line location but is only used for its strategic area denial significance, mainly in controlling air space with the use of several strategically placed SA-20 sites. These SA-20 sites create a seemingly impenetrable umbrella around the Mull of Kintyre, but are lightly guarded against ground or sea attacks. Any amphibious assault would normally be intercepted by Russian air power, however, the MF Hanks has snuck up to the coast unopposed.

Each SA-20 site has at least one Tunguska supplementing it. Each site is guarded by an enemy infantry 8 infantry broken up into smaller patrols. A Vodnik usually patrols through the area of an SA-20 site.

The SW SA-20 site is broken up into 3 sub-sites, each with 2 launchers and a radar, on Beinn na Lice, Torr Mor, and Beinn a’ Theine mountain peaks respectively. There is also a captured Early warning site at an FOB atop Torr Mor, which is being used for the SA-20 sites logistical trucks.

Once this SW site is destroyed, a gap in the air defence umbrella is expected to open up into a valley just North of the SW SA-20 site (Recommended IP), which should allow terrain masking flight into the crash site.

Russian ground forces are expected to soon reach the crash site and to have the area patrolled in case some of the crew escaped the crash site.

    Russian Ground Forces
    Russian Ground Forces

Russian ground forces in the Mull of Kintyre are guarding forces, equipped with small arms and light AT. The SA-20 sites handle all of their air defence. Vodniks and BTR-90s have been seen operating in low numbers further inland, which may be deployed in reaction to a rescue operation. Expect most Russian troops to have NVGs

    B. Friendly Forces:

Zulu-Alpha is on MF Hanks, with a Chinook, DAP, and 2 RHIBs. The ship is a converted car ferry, with a rear ramp that opens up, through which the boats can be pushed out. The deck has been converted to handle 2 helicopters, and one FARP location, with refuel, rearm and repair facilities, along with resupply crates. The BlackHawk DAP is occupying the FARP location.

A medical facility is inside the ship.

Taking off from the Hanks before the SW SA-20 site is dealt with is not advised.
