1. SITUATION
Situation Time: October 6, 05h30L
Lighting: Pre-Dawn, Sunrise at 06h00L
Weather: Partly cloudy, unlimited visibility.ISIS has captured the Central Business District of Kinduf via an insurgency. During the uprising, they took 6 international diplomats and businessmen hostage who happened to be in Kinduf at the time. The Iraqi Army has contained the situation and has established a cordon around the CBD, however, they do not have the training or manpower to also take the CBD and ensure the safety of the hostages.
PsiOps dropped leaflets encouraging the civilian population to escape and based on head counts, this appears to have been successful.
Zulu-Alpha has been tasked with re-taking the CBD and securing the hostages.
AO A. Enemy Forces:
ISIS is composed of only infantry but in well-fortified positions with a large number of HMGs, and some ZU-23s. They have used IEDs and mines to hinder progress into the town and have barricaded the main approaches into the CBD.
ISIS They have established 5 main areas as strongholds, located at the North East, South East, South West, North West and centre. MI has established with a high degree of certainty that the hostages are in some of those strongholds.
Aerial view of AO ISIS does have a large number of troops of at least company strength inside the town, however, they cannot receive any reinforcements due to being isolated.
B. Friendly Forces:
The Iraqi Army has set up a FUP at the Terminal to the East of Kinduf for Zulu-Alpha to use to stage the assault.
ZA has standard small arms, and also several Armoured vehicles and medivac facilities.
The Iraqi Army has set up HMG positions around Kinduf (marked on the Map) and an M113 at the terminal and will stay at these locations.
