Scheduled for Sunday the 25th of October
Description:
1. SITUATION
- Situation Time: 07h00
- Lighting: Early morning
- Weather: 2Km Visibility, Partly Cloudy with light Fog, forecasted to clear
It is the year 2035 and global economies are slowly recovering from the energy crises of 2017. Surprisingly, the European Union has transformed itself during this second Dark Age to become the new global power under the leadership and guidance of Germany and its progressive new Chancellor, Bertrant von Maltis Wagener.
The success of this transformation is largely due to an early decision to convert France into the Nuclear Power Hub of western Europe. Today France produces more than 95% of western Europe’s power through highly efficient nuclear power plants, making the sub-continent independent from fossil fuels. The EU has developed into an economic powerhouse when other economies are battling to come to grips with the collapse of coal, gas and oil resources. However France, despite being willing to accept this role, refuses to dispose of nuclear waste on french soil. An elaborate scheme was implemented by which nuclear waste is now railed out via Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia to be disposed of in deep underground bunkers in Estonia near the Russian border.
The continued operation of the Paris Nuclear Express is of key importance to the EU and the route and rolling stock is under constant and close surveillance. German intelligence has long suspected that Russia may be plotting to sabotage the rail link and thereby shut down the French plants. Russia, in particular, has been hit hard by the collapse of the Russian oil industry and have openly expressed their concerns with disposing nuclear wastes so close to the motherland.
The EUI (the new EU intelligence agency) has identified a short section of the rail link in the Chernarus district of the Czech Republic as a high risk zone. It is the section that runs from Kamenka in the SW for 20km to Berezino in the NE. The EUI has prepared the locality link below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-H6U29BvpLcS0tKa1FXd2RpS2M/view?usp=sharing
This area is almost always under cloud cover making satellite surveillance very difficult and unreliable. Nevertheless, a combination of chance sightings during clear skies and ground intelligence have identified Russian Vozdushno-Desantnye Voyska (VDV) activity on the abandoned WWII airfield between Lopatino and Grishino. The deployment included several OTR-21 Tochka’s. The OTR-21 is a soviet tactical ballistic missile complex with designation 9K79 (GRAU) or SS-21 Scarab (NATO). It is transported in a 9P129 vehicle and raised prior to launch. It is more than likely that these are armed with high explosive warheads, but the risk of tactical nuclear potential cannot be ignored.
It is now feared that the Russians are bent on crippling the Paris Nuclear Express by destroying several key infrastructure components along the 20km line before the EU can respond in force. There are four rail bridges and a small gas power plant that are considered primary targets.
After ZA Platoon’s successful operations in the Aegean in support of NATO, NATO under pressure of the EU has mobilised ZA as a quick reaction force to patrol and protect the infrastructure until reinforcements can be mobilised to deal with the greater threat.
A. Enemy Forces:
Not much is known about the russian forces in Chernarus. The latest intel suggests that a Company size force has been established at FOB AGERA including motorised and mechanised units. The FoB is well protected against air and ground attack.
It is assumed that the FOB has served as a staging area to mobilise and set-up 4 or 5 missile launch sites in the mountains to the south and east, but well clear from the lowlands where the rail line runs. The locations of the launch sites are unknown, but mechanised patrols and dug-ins can be expected. It is unlikely that significant air defences could have been set-up away from FOB AGERA in the short period since landing.
Since the missile complexes are relatively static and vulnerable, it is expected that small sabotage units may operate closer to the rail line and will look for opportunities to target the bridges with explosives.
B. Friendly Forces:
ZA Platoon is located at FOB HURACAN including mechanised and air attachments.
1) Equipment: Limited re-supply equipment is available at the FOB.
2) Surveillance: Several RQ-11 micro UAVs and one Yabhon-R3 (CAS) UAV
3) Ground Vehicles: 2x HMMWV Transport, 4x Quad Bikes, 2x M2A3 Bradleys, 1x Hunter HMG MRAP, 1x Hunter GMG MRAP (on patrol), 2x Hunter Unarmed MRAPS (one on patrol) and 1x UGV. Fuel, Repair and Ammo HMMETs at the Maintenance Area
4) Fixed Wing: None
5) Rotary Wing: 1x CH-471 Chinook, 1x MH-6 Little Bird, 1x AH-6 Little Bird
6) Naval: None
Other friendly forces: Military forces of the new Takistani government will be guarding the FOB.
C. Civilian Presence: The region is sparsely populated comprising mostly poor and rural folk with little interest in politics and war. The locals have no loyalty to either the russian or NATO forces. Civilian casualties are not acceptable.
2. MISSION
Your primary objective is to patrol and protect the four rail bridges and power plant in the AO for at least two hours game time. To achieve this objective will require you to recon, locate and neutralise four, possibly five, missile launch sites before they launch. At the same time you will also have to prevent enemy sabotage units from gaining access to the bridges.
3. EXECUTION
You are to proceed as you see fit. Be advised that FOB AGERA should not be approached within the red zone marked below until substantial reinforcements have arrived.
4. SERVICE & SUPPORT
A. SUPPORT UNITS
A repair area and support vehicles have been established at the SE end of the runway.B. MEDICAL SUPPORT
Zulu-Alpha handles medical requirements internally.C. LOGISTICAL SUPPORT
