1. SITUATION
Situation Time: 20:00L 14 August 2023
Lighting: Half Moon
Weather: Clear skies and unlimited visibility.
ISIS has enjoyed renewed support in Southern Iraq and has managed to carve out an enclave in the centre of Al-Basrah.
The Iraqi Army has surrounded this enclave but is unable to penetrate it.
Several hours ago, 2 American Journalists, Elias Bouras and Evripidis Malas, were kidnapped by ISIS while they were at a market nearby, by using the sewers to break out of their enclave.

AO A. Enemy Forces:
ISIS has a large infantry presence in their enclave in the centre of Al-Basrah, in the area of the El Hakimiya Mosque and Al-Junaina Mosque. They have secured the avenues of approach into the enclave with closed gates, IEDs, and CSWs. You can expect all buildings in the area to be occupied and expect the enemy to not remain static if they feel that they need to redeploy their forces to push you back out of their enclave.
ISIS Enclave (side) ISIS Enclave (top) We do not know exactly where the journalists are held, but we do know that one of them is above ground in one of two possible locations in the centre of the enclave, and one is in the sewers underneath.
The sewers cover the area directly underneath the enclave and are under the control of ISIS, and they have barricaded the part of the sewers directly under the enclave. Iraqi police and Army forces are guarding the manhole entrances to the sewers in the South Suburbs. A map of the sewers is overlaid over the city, with green lines representing the sewers, and yellow triangles representing manhole entrances to it.
ISIS does not have NVGs but does have plenty of portable and rifle-attached lights.

Zulu-Alpha has set up a FUP in the streets of the South Suburbs

Other friendly forces: Iraqi Police and Army outside of the enclave, establishing a perimeter.
C. Civilian Presence: Civilians have left the enclave area and are avoiding the fighting.

- Operating in or firing on the mosque compound in the centre of the enclave is forbidden.
