1. SITUATION
Situation Time: 01:00L 16 January 2006
Lighting: Three quarter moon
Weather: clear
Taliban insurgents are launching a new effort to take over the province of Anizay and have already established a strong presence in the SE quarter of the province. Their next objective is the large town of Qalandar and they have already started shelling the town with mortars. All civilians have fled from Qalandar and the town is only protected by Afghan Army infantry. Civilian informants reported a large convoy of light weaponized infantry vehicles and troop carriers crossing the border into Anizay at the border crossing in the SE. The convoy is heading in the direction of Qalandar but they are moving slow.

The Taliban have settled in the SE quarter of Anizay and it is reported that they have multiple Ural ZU-23 AA vehicles spread across the area. The position of the mortar team shelling Qalandar is unknown but it should be assumed that they are well protected.Ural ZU-23 B. Friendly Forces:
Zulu-Company, Alpha platoon is stationed at Landay airfield in the NE of Anizay

3) Ground Vehicles: All US Army 2003 assets plus Nato Sholef 155mm tracked artillery

5) Rotary Wing: All US Army 2003 Helicopters

2. Mission
- Locate and destroy the mortar team or their forward observer to render the mortar team ineffective.
- Locate and stop the convoy. If the convoy cannot be stopped, enter Qalandar and help the Afghan Army to protect the town.
