1. SITUATION
Situation Time: 13:00L 23 July 2023
Lighting: Midday
Weather: Clear skies and unlimited visibility.
After the president of Chad died in combat with the Chadian rebel group, the Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), a snap election has been called. FACT is claiming that the interim government is going to rig the elections, despite international observers being present, and have taken matters into their own hands by seizing Polling places in the town of Qalandar and the village of Makan aljamal. They have placed their own Election judges who will ensure their own party wins by a landslide. There are good indications that FACT intends to take more polling places in the villages of Asadis oil and Riqay.
Theatre Polling station with election judge A complication, however, is that FACT has hired Wagner to train and equip them, and to conduct more complicated operations that FACT cannot do on their own, likely in exchange for oil and mining rights if FACT wins.
Zulu-Alpha is deployed in the region in stabilising and peacekeeping operations and has been tasked with ensuring the integrity of the election in the region, by liberating the captured polling places and protecting the still functional ones, while minimizing contact with Wagner.
A. Enemy Forces:
FACT has not been fully trained by Wagner, and their equipment is limited to small arms, but with a significant amount of CSWs, including Metis ATGMs, ZU-23s and DSHKs. Their forces at the seized polling stations are each limited to about an infantry squad in strength with at least one CSW. No other significant presence in the Qalandar and Makan aljamal is expected. FACT has 2 outposts with ZU-23s in the region on dominating terrain, providing macro terrain control between towns and villages with the polling places that they control, and also maintaining patrols there.
Qalandar polling place with Oringo Ekwensi Qalandar Qalandar AO Makan aljamal polling place with Zaim Ngige Makan aljamal Makan aljamal AO Rebel outpost FACT has installed 2 of their warlords at the polling stations that they have captured. At the Qalandar station, Oringo Ekwensi, and at the Makan aljamal, Zaim Ngige.
Wagner mostly operates in a support role, but does have 2 roadblocks, but not near the towns and villages of interest. FACT normally does most of the fighting, but when they come across a tactical problem that they struggle to solve themselves, then they call upon Wagner for assistance. Examples of these missions are, but are not limited to, QRF, and Direct Action. Wagner operates a helicopter fleet of Mi-8s and Mi-24 hinds, which they are known to conduct Direct Action Raids and Quick Reaction with, and have technicals, with MANPADs for SHORAD, and Mechanized infantry with BTR-80s and BMP-2s to enable any kind of ground assault.
Wagner operators Wagner heliport Wagner technicals Wagner mechanized infantry Wagner is not expected to engage with US troops or Chadian government forces, unless provoked or are an obstruction to their mission.
The expected behaviour or FACT, is to guard the polling stations that they have captured (Qalandar and Makan aljamal), with Wagner likely to intervene if FACT forces come under heavy assault, with the other 2 polling stations in Chadian government control (Asadis oil and Riqay) likely to be attacked by Wagner forces in their own Direct Action Raids due to the Chadian government defence.
B. Friendly Forces:
Zulu-Alpha, Dragon platoon is located at Camp Landslide in the South East corner of the theatre, close to Asadis oil, Along with 3 helicopters at a FARP and some vehicles and an armed UGV.
Camp Landslide Chadian government forces are protecting the Asadis oil and Riqay polling places, each with a squad of infantry and a BTR.
