****FLASH TRAFFIC****
“Mayday, Mayday, Mayday…..this is Longhorn 1-1, we have come under heavy fire from ground bassed AA, possibly ZSU-23’s….we have taken multiple hits and are going down, current location is 121 245, heading 000 degrees… repeat 121 245, heading 000…”
****END FLASH TRAFFIC****
The above radio message was recevied 30 minutes ago from the pilot of the MH-47E Chinnook, callsign Longhorn 1-1, which was carrying US Senator John Jones, ZNN Reporter Bucky “Buck” Buckerson and their escort of three Force Recon Patrols home after the Senators fact finding mission into piracy and child soldiers in the local area. Zulu-Alpha’s job is to go in and get them out.
Area of OperationsA: Enemy Forces:
Enemy concentrations are expected to be high as the crash site appears to be just north of several heavily fortified pirate strongholds. The pirates are expected to have Cold War era light to medium arms as well as RPG7’s and the like. Judging from the radio transmissiom it is likely the pirates have also gotten their hands on ZSU-23’s left over from the countries civil war.
Suspected Crash SiteB: Friendly Forces:
Zulu-Alpha: D-Troop is located on the small island of Mafunvo, Fire Base Juniper, at the entrance to the estuary from where they have been launching anti-pirate opperations in the area. The ZA operators have access to their standard armaments and loadouts.
Firebase JuniperC: Mission
Zulu-Alpha D-Troops mission is to search for and rescue the Senator, Buck Buckerson and any surviving member of the escort and helicopter crew. There were twenty people on the helicopter in total. Once you have found the wreck of Longhorn 1-1 you are to ascertain how many personel have been killed/ wounded or captured. If anyone has been captured you are then tasked with ensuring their rescue as quickly as possible. Unusually for pirates there are two pirate cheifs in the area, which happen to be a pair of twins. One is based at Mbanza Nyogo (109 232) and the other at Mbanza Kyete (114 233), and it is thought thay they share whatever spoils they get evenly. If the Senator and his entourage have been taken prisoner it is most likely that they will be taken to one of, or even both, of these two locations.

- Task org. – Anvil-0 will be the primary UAV operator and C130 pilot, Bravo-2 will be the para-dropped team, Romeo\Anvil will be the SWCC security and the remaining units will be the assault elements.
D. Ground Brief Orientation
- Map familiarization – The AO is dominated by dense jungle with occasional patches of less dense jungle suitable for HLSs and DZs, with a large and deeply penetrating estuary, several small villages inter connected by dirt roads.
- Enemy – The dense jungle allows forces to stay hidden. The estuary can be guarded by outposts or camps along it. Industrial compounds, villages or military bases offer good fortified positions.
- Friendly – The dense jungle allows a small force to penetrate deep into enemy territory, however it also slows down movement significantly. Estuaries allows for rapid movement in enemy territory.
Theatre 1. Situation
A. Enemy Forces
- Strengths – Large
- Locations – Focused at four camps marked on the map. Note that Camp Beleth encompasses both Mbanze Kyete and Mbanze Nyogo.
- Weapons – Soviet era small arms including RPGs.
- Equipment – ZSU-23s
- Obstacles – Unknown
- Defensive fire positions – Camps marked on the map and possible choke-points in the estuary.

2. Mission
- The overall mission intention – The crash site must first be investigated and survivors extracted if any. If there are any unaccounted for personnel, then assume they are at Camp Belleth and conduct an assault in order to rescue any unaccounted personnel. Avoid any contact not necessary for the completion of these objectives.
- ‘Bodies’ to be extracted: Daniel, Eremiel (see image below for codename meanings), 6 Helicopter crew and 12 operators.
US Senator, codename Daniel (left) and ZNN Reporter, codename Eremiel (right) North AO Camp Beleth 3. Execution
A. Concept of Operations
- C.O’s Intent – To covertly insert a minimal force to evaluate the crash site and determine if assault is needed to take place.
- Scheme of maneuver –
- 1. Anvil-0 Launches UAV from Thuja and observes possible DZ East of Micheal, then lands UAV for later use by Bravo-2.
- 2. Bravo-2 performs HALO jump via C-130j at that DZ, evaluates crash site and reports to Anvil-0
- 3(a). If survivors are found or all bodies are accounted for, Bravo-2 moves North (with survivors if any) and locates suitable HLS for extraction by Angel-1
- 3(b). If not all bodies are accounted for and no survivors are found, Bravo-2 Moves SW toward Camp Beleth and establishes LUP near either town and awaits main assault.
- 4. Main assault force, Anvil-1 and Romeo move using the 3x SWCC from Thuja to LZ-1, while a UAV operated by Anvil-0 and launched from Thuja is flown ahead of the boats and observed by personnel from the boat(s).
- 5. When LZ-1 is secured, 1x HMMWV M2 and 1x resupply crate will be para-dropped by Anvil-0 via C-130J. LZ-1 Will be the Rally-point guarded by Anvil-1 and\or Romeo.
- 6. The assault force will immediately use the HMMWV and assault West Beleth (Mbanza Nyogo) using a Troop wedge or line and liaise with Bravo-2 for possible diversion and link up.
- 7. If any bodies are still unaccounted for, the assault element and Bravo-2 (now merged) will assault East Beleth (Mbanza Kyete).
- 8. All teams regroup at LZ-1, destroy any left over equipment (HMMWV and supply Crate(s)) and extract to Thuja via SWCCs with any bodies found (living or dead).
- Main Effort – Bravo-2 HALOs in and evaluates crash site. If any bodies are unaccounted for Main force inserts via SWCC and assaults Beleth with Bravo-2 in order to find the bodies.
B. Mission Statements
- Bravo-2 – Evaluate crash site, conduct recon on Beleth and support assault if the mission requires it and extract via LZ-1.
- Alpha section and Bravo-1 – Insert at LZ-1, Conduct assault on Beleth in order to search for the bodies and extract at LZ-1.
- Anvil-1 and Romeo – Man SWCC and insert Assault force at LZ-1 and guard LZ-1. Elements may accompany assault (eg: XO). Extract all units at LZ-1 when all of them arrive there.
- .
- Anvil-0 – HALO Bravo-2, deploy UAVs and operate UAVs (non exclusive responsibility), Paradrop cargo. Also ensure preliminary moves to Thuja are completed.
- Summary – Bravo-2 HALOs in and evaluates crash site. If any bodies are unaccounted for Main force inserts via SWCC with the LZ remaining guarded by Anvil\Romeo and assaults Beleth with Bravo-2 in order to find the bodies. All units then extract at LZ-1.
C. Coordinating instructions
- Preliminary Moves – 3x SWCC and 1x supply crate with several UAVs (with UAVs then deployed) are moved to Thuja. Any personnel that needs to insert via LZ-1 are moved to Thuja as they arrive.
- Coordinating Fire – N\A
- Re-Org Instructions – Thuja is the FUP, with LZ-1 the RP once the assault begins.
Actions-on :
- Supply Para-drop SOP – All para-dropped cargo and equipment by Anvil-0 in a C-130J will be done using a low altitude high velocity drop technique in order to maximize accuracy and foil AAA.
- Bravo-2 encounters heavy contact at or near Micheal – Disengage North, away from enemy territory and arrange extraction with Angel-1.
- Helicopter operations conducted near hostile territory (see 1A) – Helicopters must fly several Km around enemy camps.
- Abandon equipment – Destroy with explosive charges.
4. Service Support
- Kit requirements – Bravo-2 must have UAV controller and Silencers. All patrols must have a LR radio. Assault elements and\or Anvil-1\Romeo must have at least 4x explosive charges and at least 1x CTab or UAV terminal in total.
- CASEVAC – Angle-1 used for Bravo-2 while still North of MSR Hades, otherwise SWCCs at LZ-1 for all elements.
- Resupply – C130 Para-drop by Anvil-0
5. Command and Signals
