Operation Island Troll

1. SITUATION

Situation Time: 1 September 2023, 03:48L
Lighting: Night, half-moon, First light at 04:48L
Weather: Clear sky, unlimited visibility.

Iran has taken to selectively blocking coalition traffic before even entering the straight of Hormuz by placing artillery pieces and an S-300 SAM site on a small island in the Gulf of Hormuz

CENTCOM has tasked Ranger Zulu Company, Alpha Platoon, with taking the island and disabling the S-300 system and artillery battery. Three Saudi infantry squads, which are ZA’s counterparts, will be assisting in the attack under the command of ZA.

MI has identified a small island off to the South West of the main one, which is un-guarded and blocks LOS to the AJA forces (Islamic Republic of Iran Army) on the island and has been able to sneak ZA and the Saudi forces via small boats under the cover of night and use it as an FUP (forming up point).

A. Enemy Forces:

The enemy forces on the island are heavy on long-range heavy weapons (S-300 and 3x D30 guns) but are expected to be light on infantry, at about a reinforced platoon strength, as they expect a more overt attack.

The enemy is not expected to have NVGs, only flashlights.

The enemy has 2x ZSU-23s, which regularly move around, and the S-300 site, though identified below, has recently been moved and hidden in the forests (the different prices can be separated onto different parts of the island). The battery has not been moved.

Note, however, that there is a FARP on the island with 2 flights of Toufan II choppers (Domestic AH-1) on the island that is still there.

The perimeter is patrolled, and there is the occasional bunker with HMG looking out.

B. Friendly Forces:
Zulu-Alpha is located on the South Side of the FUP along with the Saudi Forces and supplies. The U.S.S America is off to the South of the AO, with an F-35B in stealth configuration and MH-60 Knighthawk (ESSS x4) ready for assistance

1) Equipment: Standard equipment, including suppressors and dive gear.

2) Surveillance: None.

3) Ground Vehicles: None.

4) Fixed Wing: F-35B (Stealth)

5) Rotary Wing: 1x MH-60 Knighthawk (ESSS x54)

6) Naval: 2x RHIB (Mk19), 4x Zodiac

Other friendly forces: 3 Saudi squads with 3 RHIB (Mk19)

C. Civilian Presence: Present in the main town.

2. Mission

1. Take the island and disable the S-300 system and D-30 Artillery battery

3. General Instructions

1. Avoid using air assets before the S-300 is dealt with, and avoid allowing the Toufan choppers from taking off and causing damage.

4. Specific Instructions

1. Decide which of the 2 LZs to tell the Saudi troops to land at. Once you do, they will immediately land at that LZ, and attack through to the main town.
