1. SITUATION

Situation Time: 01:00L

Lighting: Half Moon

Weather: Partly cloudy, unlimited visibility.

The IS warlord Jamal Yousuf has been sighted in one of his compounds in the district of Shegara, in Syria. MI wants him alive in order to debrief him on the location of a cache of captured MANPADs.

IS has moved caches captured from the Iraqi Army to Syria, and MI has word that they may intend to use them on airliners.

A. Enemy Forces:

The compound is located NE of the Syrian Army base AFB Kinduf. It is moderately guarded by IS fighters acting as his personal bodyguards. Surveillance has sighted no more than 10 in the building itself. The compound is not situated inside an IS-held area, which is unusual. The closest IS held area is Orcarif, several KM to the North West.

It is unknown how he may behave when his compound comes under attack. Possibilities range from standing and fighting to fleeing.

The IS forces in the area consist of infantry with small arms from the old Iraqi Army and Syrian army and newer US small arms from the new Iraqi Army, as well as some CSWs and possible technicals.

Numbers in the IS stronghold is approximately platoon strength, though it is difficult to know for certain as there is regular movement in and out of the area and there is no intelligence from inside the built-up area itself.

If your forces do enter the IS stronghold, then MI suspects that at least some of the MANPADs are stored in a mult-story building in the centre of Orcarif, next to the main road.

B. Friendly Forces:

Zulu-Alpha is on situated at Camp Kalae Noowi, just over the border in Iraq.

The Syrian Army is not friendly to US forces, but are ordered not to engage either.

C. Civilian Presence: A moderate civilian presence is expected in the area.

2. Mission

1. Find and apprehend Jamal Yousuf.
2. Secondary: Find and destroy the partial MANPAD cache.

3. General Instructions

Minimise civilian casualties.

Avoid attacking an IS position with a confirmed MANPAD threat with a helicopter, at least until that threat is neutralised.
