Operation Hacksaw

Description:

1. SITUATION

Situation Time: 17:30hrs

Lighting: Afternoon. Last light at 20h30

Weather: Clear, unlimited visibility

3rd Battalion has broken through to North Sarhani, however, our advance has been halted due to a secondary defensive line along mountain ranges inside North Sahrani. The only accepted avenues of approach to drive deeper into North Sahrani and all the way to the East coast in through Passo san Marco and Benoma, which are defenced by armoured and mechanized companies in prepared defensive positions.

It is widely accepted that Sierra de los Pinos is impassible to any regular force, however, observers have identified several climbable paths that lead up the cliff faces. Command does not believe that the SLA is expecting any attack through the Sierra de los Pinos and as such is under-defended. In addition to that and due to its commanding position, SLA has stationed it’s battalion HQ on the plateau, vulnerable to attack.

Command, therefore, has ordered Alpha platoon (ranger detachment) to conduct a sneak attack and take the plateau with the help of 2nd Platoon.

 

A. Enemy Forces:

The enemy on the platau consists of an infantry platoon pulled back from active combat to recuperate and are spread out across the entire plateau in a defensive posture. An enemy counterattack is unlikely as they are not expecting any sizable attack there. The enemy AA consists of a ZSU-23 covering the plateau from air infiltration, preventing 2nd platoon from landing there. The enemy HQ position is a motorized unit of 4 to 5 vehicles, with at most 2 HMG UAZs. There is a high probability of a mortar position on the plateau, however, it would be very close to the frontlines due to the perceived security of the position.

B. Friendly Forces: Zulu-Alpha is located at FOB Tomahawk. 1 Plt is providing security for the FOB and the front line in your sector. 2nd Platoon is located in South Sahrani and consists of a platoon of infantry in a CH-47, which will land on the plateau once called in to help hold the terrain.

2. Mission

1. Attack and hold a foothold on the plateau of Sierra de los Pinos
2. Destroy the enemies Battalion HQ
3. Destroy the enemy AA

3. Execution

1. Determine the weakest point of the defensive line of the plateau and attack there by climbing a passable part of the cliff face.
2. Destroy the AA and call in 2nd Platoon to assist in holding the platau.
3. Expect heavy use of barbed wire fencing on the plateau and possible mines.
