Operation Thunder Island – WARNORD

Description:

1. SITUATION

Situation Time: 03:30 hrs

Lighting: First light at 04:15 hrs

Weather: Unlimited Visibility, Partly Cloudy

The Sahrani Liberation Army (SLA) has been occupying South Sahrani for several months now, initially invading with Paratroopers. They have begun moving ground forces into South Sahrani with the aim of strengthening their occupation by bringing in heavy armour, mechanized troops and artillery by ground from North Sahrani.

If Sahrani is ever to be liberated by an intervention or by a local insurgency, then this must not be allowed to happen. Fortunately, intelligence has identified the time and route of the most significant of the reinforcements, the SLA 114th Mechanized Infantry Company.

 

A. Enemy Forces: The 114th consists of 1 Platoon of older T72s, Shilka AAA air defence, 2 platoons if IFVs with infantry, numerous UAZs with heavy wrapons, artillery and logistical vehicles, all together, numbering just under 30 vehicles. The convoy is expected to be using the cover of night to move to OBJ Mango, a key piece of elevated terrain at the Western end of South Sahrani, which overlooks the oil fields of South Sahrani and controls access to the Northen and Southern Halfs of South Sarhani. The convoy is expected to reach the objective at about 04h10.

All of South Sahrani is enemy territory, however there is only a minimal enemy presence and only concentrated in each town. There is only about a squad of infantry in each town.

The SLA is a regular military, but with older Soviet era military hardware.

 

B. Friendly Forces: The USS Makin Island (LHD-8) is several KM off the West coast of of South Sahrani, directly West of the AO and is where the ZA platoon is based. The island of Rahmadi is occupied by US forces and is a base of operations for fixed wing and Artillery.

The LHD has a Blackhawk and a little-bird on the landing deck and assault and speed boats in the well deck. These vehicles are at the disposal for the CO.

1) Equipment: Limited equipment is available at the LHD.

2) Surveillance: Several micro UAVs

3) Ground Vehicles: Ammo, Fuel and Repair HMMET located at the LHD and Rahmadi.

4) Fixed Wing: 1x A10D

5) Rotary Wing: 1x MH-6M, 1x UH-60M

6) Naval: 4x Assault Boats, 2x Speed Boats.

Other friendly forces: Haymaker (1x M109A6) for artillery support.

 

C. Civilian Presence: Civilians occupy all towns and should remain neutral.

 

2. Mission

Your primary objective is to ambush and destroy the 114th Mechanized Infantry Company, with minimal casualties and civilian loss of life.

 

3. Execution

1. Use either helicopter or naval insertion.
2. Prepare an ambush and coordiate it with fires from Reaper and Haymaker in order to provide the force multiplier needed to achieve the objective.
3. Extract back to the LDH.
