    1. SITUATION

Weather: Clear skies, unlimited visibility. The wind is currently 1.4 m/s @ 189 degrees

Boko Haram has established a stronghold in the Kujari region of Mali, centred in the town of Geydam-Tchoukou. The conflict between the Malian Government Forces and Boko Haram has taken a toll on the local population, and an aid station was set up in the village of Walada, which is under government protection.

40 hours ago, an Aid worker that is also a US citizen, named Jake Martinez was taken hostage by Boko Haram and taken to Geydam-Tchoukou.

Ranger Zulu Company, Alpha Platoon, has deployed to the airfield serving as a FARP in the North of Kujari and has been tasked with a rescue operation, however, a AAA threat means that helicopter insertions are not authorized, meaning a para drop is in order and the availability of comandeerable vehicles and boats and the close proximity of friendly territory means a self-extraction is viable.

    A. Enemy Forces:

Boko Haram is centred at Geydam-Tchoukou, but most of its men are garrisoning all the surrounding towns and patrolling the forest in the region. Each village has 10 to 20 men and may act as a QRF if their headquarters in Geydam-Tchoukou comes under attack. Patrols are around 6 men in strength, and around 20 to 40 men are in Geydam-Tchoukou itself but spread out in the town, with the largest concentrations in the Commander’s residence and Boko Haram cell HQ.

In the town of Geydam-Tchoukou, the HQ for the entire Boko-Haram cell in Kujari is located in a multi-storey office building at the West end of the town. The leader of the cell has commandeered a mansion just North of the HQ. These 2 buildings have the highest concentrations of force in order to guard them, and the hostage is being kept at the residence.

There is a Motor Pool in the North, where vehicles are being retro-fitted into technical. The vehicles are all expected to be in a serviceable state and unmanned. In the South of the town along the river, are 2 docks where Boko Haram keeps their river boats, also un-manned.

Boko Haram forces in the area mainly consist of men with small arms, no NVGs, and a number of technicals. Heavy weapons include HMGs at some checkpoints and ZU-23s mounted on vehicles and one static gun in the centre of Geydam-Tchoukou on top of a roof. Due to the heavy weapons and the heavy patrolling of the forests, Command has not authorized helicopter insertions in the area. The safe floor for aircraft to avoid AA fire is 1500m AGL.
