Scheduled for Sunday 24 July 2022

    1. SITUATION

    Situation Time: 02:30L 22 April 2022

Lighting: Dawn, 3/4 moon, Sunrise at 04:30

    Weather: Partly cloudy, unlimited visibility

Virolahti Separatists have seized the Western half of Virolahti. The Virolahti government has requested US support in dislodging the separatists. The South Western airfield has been identified as a key starting point in this operation, as it is a strategic beachhead on the mainland and grants control over the South Western peninsula.

The LHD-9 has come into striking range of the airfield, but outside of the separatist’s SAM systems. Zulu-Alpha has been tasked with planning and executing the mission to seize and hold the airfield.

    A. Enemy Forces:

There is an SA-10 site defending the inland of Virolahti, but it does not properly protect the Airfield, and air strikes are feasable due to the extreme range.

The bulk of the separatists is made up of well-supplied irregular infantry with old Warsaw pact equipment. The airfield does not have an armoured force, however armoured fighting vehicles, such as BTR-80As or T-72s have occasionally been spotted moving through the area. The Airfield is well defended with short-range anti-air, with a ZSU-23-4, a ZSU-23-2, and a MANPAD system. The forests around the airfield are well patrolled and the airfield has a full garrison.

Expect the airfield to call in a quick reaction force, wither heli-borne (Mi-8s or Mi-24s are probable). There is a reinforced mechanized infantry platoon in Klamila to the North, which may launch a counter-attack.

    B. Friendly Forces:

Zulu-Alpha is located within the LHD-9, with POLARIS vehicles near the starboard elevator for a mobile ground assault option, speed boats for an water borne option, and various transport and CAS aircraft on the flight deck, along with resupply crates, re-arm, refuel and repair.

    2. Mission

    1. Take and hold the Airfield with minimal destruction of infastructure.

    3. General Instructions

Plan and proceed as seen fit.

    4. Specific Instructions

Air assets are to avoid penetrating too far North inland to avoid staying within the SA-10 range for too long. Aircraft will not be engaged immediately though, so flying over the airfield (once it’s own air defences are suppressed or destroyed) for a short time is feasable.
