Description:
Weather: Clear Skies, 3Km Visibility
1. SITUATION
Time: 08:20

Outline:
A NATO general -General Smythe -was doing a “Hearts and minds” visit in Kavala, when the city suddenly started receiving constant artillery fire.
The general and his one surviving guard are holding up in a small room on the ground floor of a 5 story building next to the town square.
His emergency GPS sent an SOS signal with coordinates “E-0369 N-1314”.
700×410

The mortar fire has been going non-stop, and Intel have not been able to determine the location of the assailants.

From the explosions, it is estimated that there are at least 4 Mortar crews (12 Mortars) firing on the city.

The attack sequences have been in intervals of 50 seconds to 1 minute apart.
Friendly forces have set up an emergency FOB -FOB Umbrella -just North-East on the outskirts of Neri.
Literally every minute, more and more buildings are being destroyed.
The general needs to be extracted ASAP.

    Factors Report:

    Blufor:
Full munitions are available at the Airbase, as well as FOB Umbrella.
    Airbase Transport:
    1 x UH80
    2 x MH-9
    1 x AH-9

    FOB Umbrella Transport:
    4 x Hunters (NATO)

    Opfor:
Estimated 4 Mortar Crews. Location and on-site support forces not known.
It appears that they are firing blindly on random locations in the city.
Reports have been made of enemy Raid Squads attacking FOB’s in the province. These are usually platoon sized infantry of 15 to 40 men. Satellite surveillance will attempt to give live Intel Feeds on their locations if and when noticed.
No reports of enemy vehicles have been made in the Province yet, but their existence are not to be ruled out.

    2. MISSION
    ·         Fly to FOB Umbrella just outside of Neri ASAP.
    ·         Extract the general and his guard from the city.
    ·         Take the general and his guard back to the Airbase.
    ·         The general must survive.

The attack on General Smythe is purely a psychological warfare move by the enemy. If they succeed to kill him, enemy morale will be significantly boosted, and it will even help them recruit more people.
         ROE:
No unarmed civilians are to be hurt. Armed civilians may be engaged if they pose a threat.
Aircraft are not to be flown into Red Zones.
The city of Kavala is a constant Red Zone, due to the artillery fire.
The Raid Squads are known to carry at least 1 x AA weapon with them…for this reason, choppers are to avoid all direct areas where contact is in progress.
Mortar crews may be eliminated after the general landed safely back at the airbase, if your team can find them.

@zapzap: No the other Johan, not HT. You will be sourly disappointed if you’re expecting something on HT’s level and standards. Sorry mate.

    Preliminaries

    MAP

    A. Security

    • Location – Main Airbase near Gravia

    • Sentries – None necessary

    B. Weather

    • No Weather Forecast available

    • 3Km visibility

    • Clear Skies

    C. Task Organization

    • Appointments – Alpha – 1 lead is in charge of assault element and 2iC, Anvil Actual is in charge of FSG and Logistics. Chain of command afterwards follows highest ranks.

    • Task org. – The Assault element of Alpha-1 and Alpha-2 will move out from Umbrella FUP and secure the VIP while avoiding enemy contact. Anvil, Bravo-1 and any Romeo elements available will form the FSG, guard the base as well as provide quick relief and logistics to the Assault element.

    D. Ground Brief Orientation

    • Map familiarization – The Airbase is approximately 11Km away from FOB Umbrella, leading to a flight time of approximately 4 minutes by helicopter. FOB Umbrella is 1km South East of Kavala, on high ground in hilly terrain with plenty of rocks forming good cover. The expected VIP location is within Kavala, a dense urban sprawl, with many multi-story  buildings. There are several possible routes using different roads that lead into Kavala from FOB Umbrella, all eventually leading to Choke-points.

    • Enemy – Enemy positions unknown. Expect ambushes at choke-ponts leading into Kavala.

    • Friendly – FOB Umbrella is an important defensive position for the duration of the operation. The operational Area is limited to FOB Umbrella and the South Eastern part of Kavala. There are no neighboring friendly forces.

    1. Situation

    A. Enemy Forces

    • Strengths – Unkown number of groups of size 15-40 infantry. There are possible light vehicles as well, though numbers are minimal. There are also 4 mortar crews security forces of unknown size.

    • Locations – All enemy locations are unknown, though intel reports may be provided mid mission by higher HQ

    • Weapons – The enemy infantry are armed with small arms, with possible MANPADS, though in minimal quantities.

    • Equipment – Unknown

    • Obstacles – There are no prepared enemy obstacles or known mines, however there may be debris such as collapsed buildings and  car wrecks in the city due to the mortar fire.

    • Defensive fire positions – Possibly only at the enemy mortar positions (which are unknown)

    • Air threat – None

    • Artillery Support – 4 mortar crews of 3 mortars each firing in 1 minute intervals, inaccurate, at city

    • Likely intentions and reactions – The enemy infantry groups of 15-40 in size are mobile and may react to the assault group as it heads into Kavala, as well as lay ambushes. Some of those groups may also attack FOB Umbrella once Zulu-Alpha arrives there and at any other time during the mission.

    B. Friendly Forces

    • BattleGroup commanders intent – Fly to FOB Umbrella just outside of Neri ASAP. Extract the general and his guard from the city. Take the general and his guard back to the Airbase. The general must survive.

    • There is no fire support

    • Attachments or detachments – None

    2. Mission

    • To hold FOB Umbrella and extract the General and his guard from Kavala in order to bring them back to FOB Umbrella and extract them and Zulu-Alpha back to the Airbase

    3. Execution

    A. Concept of Operations

    • C.O’s Intent – To hold FOB umbrella for as long as it takes for the General and his guard to be extracted by the assault element. The assault element must extract the General and his guard from Kavala as quickly as possible and avoid being bogged down by any unnecessary contact with the enemy in order to minimize the time spent in town and minimize the risk from the enemy mortar fire.

    • Scheme of maneuver – The FSG and Assault element will kit up quickly at the Airbase. Then both will be flown to the FOB Umbrella FUP by Anvil. Both elements will then secure FOB Umbrella while Anvil sends up two UAVs to scout the routes to Kavala and select the appropriate pre-planned route. This will take 5 minutes and complete phase 1 of the mission. In the second phase, The assault element will move via 2 hunters along the chosen route to the General’s and his guard’s last known location. The assault element will avoid enemy contact where possible and move rapidly. If one of the hunters becomes disabled or needs any other assistance, a hunter from the FSG group will move to assist the assault element team, while the remaining assualt element continues with the mission. The FSG will provide the same hunter with a full patrol as a reserve to the assault element if necessary and will also provide any necessary logistics or Medicav. The rest of the FSG in the mean time will hold FOB umbrella in order to allow later extraction back to the Airbase. Once the general and his guard is found, the assault element will then extract them back to FOB Umbrella. The third and final phase will then be for Anvil to fly the General and his guard, Assault element and finally the FSG and any remaining Zulu-Alpha elements back to the Airbase.

    • Main Effort – The assault element will be primarily responsible for extracting the target, with the FSG providing a reserve and relief in order to allow the assault element to continue with the mission. The FSG will then allow the target to be extracted by holding FOB Umbrella

    B. Mission Statements

    • Alpha-1 will be part of the Assault element and be in charge of the assault Element and move into Kavala with Alpha-2 at Phase 2 while avoiding any unnecessary enemy contact,  in order to extract the target back to FOB Umbrella and then back to the airbase.

    • Alpha-2 will be part of the Assault element and will move into Kavala with Alpha-1 at Phase 2, in order while avoiding any unnecessary enemy contact, in order to extract the target back to FOB Umbrella and then back to the Airbase.

    • Bravo-1 will be part of the FSG and will be prepared to move out of FOB umbrella in order to act as support, relief, logistics or medivac for the Assault element as needed  in order to allow them to carry on with the mission. And to help defend FOB Umbrella when still there.

    • Anvil will be part of the FSG and handle air transportation to and from the Airbase and FOB Umbrella and will stay on the ground in FOB umbrella in order to help defend it and control UAVs that they will launch on order to provide intel for the operation.

    • Any Romeo elements will for part of the FSG and will help defend FOB Umbrella in order to allow for the target to be extracted back to the Airbase.

    • Summary – Anvil will fly everyone to FOB Umbrella, where after it scouts the area, The Assault element moves into tow and extracts the target to the FOB while the FSG defends the FOB and has one of its elements (Bravo-1) assist the assault element where needed. Anvil will then fly everyone back to the Airbase.

    C. Coordinating instructions

    • Timings – At H-hour, everyone will kit up at the airbase for 10 minutes. By H+20 minutes all ZA elements must be at FOB Umbrella FUP. By H+30, the routes to Kavala must be scouted and the first phase will be completed. The Assault Element will then move out at H+30 to the target. Ideally the target and all of Zulu-Alpha must be back at the FOB by H+50 for extraction back to the Airbase.

    • Preliminary Moves – The first Phase of the operation is also considered preliminary and is described above.

    • Coordinating Fire – The area around the FOB is a free fire area, where any hostile forces is to be engaged by the defending force. Any friendly forces approaching the base must establish contact with the defending force first in order to avoid fratricide.

    • Fire Plan – N/A (There is no Artillery).

    • Re-Org Instructions – The FOB is the FUP and initial Rally Point. The assault Rally-Point is the last known location of the target as marked on the map. An additional mid rally point between the target and the FOB may be established depending on the chosen route.

    • Actions-on:
    • Communications failure – Find another man to relay if possible, otherwise use text chat.

    • Lost or separated – Contact an element of the FSG (be default Anvil) for vehicle pickup, or move to the FOB Rally-point.

    • Assault element vehicle ambushed – Push through if possible , otherwise any elements that is forced to halt must request relief from FSG

    • Assault element vehicle disabled – The crew will use the remaining hunter vehicle if there is room and then resumes the mission and any left over personell will request the FSG to bring an extra replacement Hunter.

    • Assault element encouters heavy resistance – The FSG must be notified and attach a reserve team and hunter to the assault element.

    • Reaction to obstacles – Re-route

    4. Service Support

    • Kit requirements – Standard Load-outs with a small number of light AT rockets

    • CASEVAC – the FSG will provide Casevac to the FOB, and the Airbase if necessary, first by hunter to the FOB (Romeo or Bravo-1), then by Chopper to the Airbase (Anvil).

    • Other Logistics – The FSG will deliver ammunition and medical supplies to the Assault element by hunter (Bravo-1 or Romeo) after each heavy engagement.

    5. Command and Signals

    • Radio Channels:
    • Command channel: 1 on 148
    • Assault element: 2 on 148

    • Call Signals :
    • The FSG can be referred to by Anvil (as Bravo-1 and Romeo is attached to Anvil)
    • The Assault Element is Alpha
