I recently upgraded to a decent flight stick and gaming mouse and it really made a difference to my Arma experience.
Now I am considering investing in IR tracking., but before I do, I would appreciate your opinions and experiences:
Do you use IR Tracking?
After thowing-up on your kbd a few times does it add to the ARMA experience?
Is it useful for both flying (probably the most beneficial here) and infantry action?
Is the TrackIR5 the system to get and is the xtra headset clip a necessity?Thx
July 18, 2013 at 13:48 #1867Hey, i dont have T.IR but ive flown with a rigged up headtrcking thing i tried and the difference in flying was amazing. I also really want to get a set
July 18, 2013 at 15:22 #1868Ja I expected it would be great for flying.
Some say I must wait for the new Oculist Rift headset, but that’s gonna cost a small fortune I think.
So I’ll give the T.IR a go, maybe I can land a chopper then 🙂

Yeah, I’ve had my TrackIR for about 2 years, and I can’t stand Arma without it. It just becomes a natural extension of your situational awareness. After while you don’t notice it, and not having it becomes annoying. Oculus Rift is still a way off. If you get a good year or two of TrackIR in, your’re good.

I bit the bullet and got the IR5 bundled with the Pro Clip, just to spend a whole evening swearing and getting frustrated cause the tracking was horrible. Turns out that either I had a defective USB hub or you cant run a wireless headset and the Pro Clip on the same hub. Any case, its all working nicely now and remains only to fiddle with the dead zones and sensitivities to make it natural and comfortable.
I am hoping I can free up some key-bindings for better use, e.g. using tracking for leaning L & R and instead binding stepping out to the keys.
July 20, 2013 at 17:44 #1878I’ve started using a pretty good and free alternative.
You can use FaceTrackNoIR which is a free webcam face tracking application. I don’t have a webcam attached to my desktop so I’m using droid cam on my phone linked to my PC via wifi and it works great. The only downside is that the latency is higher than Track IR and of course it’s not 100% accurate, but it does the same job for free. The upside is that you don’t have to wear any markers or caps like you do with Track IR.

A couple of guys have tried facetracknoir, and I think most of them eventually canned it for a number of different reasons. The track clip thing you wear on your earphones isn’t really a big deal if you wear headphones.
