Operation Jolly Roger

1. SITUATION

Situation Time: October 3, 2021 02h00L
Lighting: Half moon
Weather: Clear, unlimited visibility. Not expected to change. Wind light and variable.

6 Hours ago, the USS Liberty, underway to a refueling stop in Georgetown, responded to an apparent distress call from a local fishing vessel, just South of Imuri Island. It appears that this was a well-planned ruse by a group of private military contractors to seize control of the Liberty. They managed to overpower the unsuspecting rescuers and make their way onto the ship, where they took control and are now holding the crew hostage.
No communication could be established and command believes that they are attempting to gain control of the ship’s propulsion and weapon systems.
It is not known who the contractors are working for or what their ultimate motives are.

Command has decided that Zulu-Alpha, stationed closeby at Saint-George Airstrip,  should launch an immediate operation to retake the ship and liberate it’s crew, before the attackers gain control of any critical systems.

A. Enemy Forces:
An unknown number of private military contractors have taken up defensive positions on and possibly around the USS Liberty. They are believed to consist of infantry with standard weapons. No anti-air threats are usually associated with these groups.

B. Friendly Forces:
Zulu-Alpha is stationed at Saint-George Airstrip

2. Mission

1. Retake the USS Liberty.
2. Liberate the crew.
3. Collect intelligence.

3. General Instructions

Command suggests getting ISR overwatch of the ship and surrounding islands. It is possible that the attackers have had time to fortify their positions. The close location of the feigned emergency to Imuri Island suggests that they may be using that as a strategic overwatch.

4. Specific Instructions

The ship’s crew members must be liberated and left on the ship. Any intelligence gathered should be evaluated and acted upon. The CO of the operation has full authority to expand the scope of the operation, if intelligence leads to the location of the orchestrators of the attack.
