Situation Report
CJTF – JSOC – 3/75 Rangers – Zulu Company – Alpha Platoon, Managed to clear the south bridge while the Iraqi Military and Peshmerga manage to secure the northbridge a few hours later. A small and functional Foward holding point has been established and the far side of the bridge. However, since around 2:30 am the morning continual bombardment of enemy mortars has been creeping close to our position with a few dropping danger close. Minimal resupplies where brought forward, basic medical and ammunition, fuel for trucks and some spare wheels… Mortars are continuing to fall and it’s high command intent to move out with the sun at our back to “Blind” the enemy we are to proceed hastily and use as much advantage before daybreak.
The wreckages and burning building have enveloped the low-level ground with smoke and fog and are expected to clear out as the morning progresses.
The First Nasser cell has fallen back to the airfield and formed ranks within the stronger cell, HQ estimates around 120-150 strong entrenched within the airfield. with a possible QRF of 100 from an outlying northern cell. They are expected to engage heavily with the Iraqi army and Peshmerga. So Zulu Company, Alpha Platoon might be facing some stranglers coming through the flanks.
High command’s intent is to secure all three objectives and eliminate the Souther cell commander before the first set of US reinforcements arrive at the airfield around 10am.
Mission failure is not an option.
