Operation Final Sweep

1. SITUATION

Situation Time: 15:00hrs

Lighting:  Daylight, unlimited visibility.

Weather: Clear Skies. Extremely Hot, Temperature expected in late 40’s

US forces have started to ex-filtrate from Diyala after extensive operations the last two months, with only Zulu Alpha and minimal US forces remaining, freak summer weather conditions have started to show face which makes things exceptionally difficult to operate and finalizing the operation.

For about 4 days now, NATO and HQ have been debating the next mission which involves clearing the main MSR route between Baghdad and Baquba and a few IED factories.

NATO deems it’s critical that the MSR, IED’s and IED Factories is secured/destroyed or cleared immediately before US forces depart from Diyala.

Although ZA is a well trained and fit unit, the extended period of operation in this climate will cause a soldier to much fatigue faster and being able to sprint for only a short distances, Because of the stop-and-go movements and being able to cover only short distances, ZA regains stamina faster due to training.

As it stands now ZA has been instructed to clear the MSR route from IED’s, VBEID’s and the occasional suicide bomber together with the destruction of three IED factories. Code Name: COKE, SNACKBAR & SHIT-STORM

The main MSR route is roughly 2.8miles long which making the work rate extremely difficult and maintaining the momentum is key to achieve mission success. The three factories are currently being used to produce large scale IED’s being transported to Baghdad and Baquba.

ZA is stationed at a makeshift FOB which provides some shade after receiving word from HQ about the mission on hands, luckily the FOB is stationed a mere 150 meters away. Which has a high risk of early enemy contacts.

Because of the Extreme Weather, HQ has agreed to make the soldier as comfortable as possible and have issued standard Boonie hats to replace the hot and heavy Combat helmets, Lite Modular vests and some standard combat sunglasses.
