Scheduled for Sunday 28 October 2018
Situation Time: 07h00L
Weather: Forecast of 60% rain for the day.
Sporadic engagements continue in the Donetsk region between NATO backed Ukrainian forces and Russian backed separatist forces. The front lines continue to receive consistent indirect fire support from near the Russian border, which is under a significant AAA umbrella preventing CAS/SEAD.
Ranger Company Zulu, Alpha Platoon has been tasked with a clandestine operation to locate and destroy artillery assets in an area far behind the front-lines. Satellite surveillance indicates a minimal guarding presence, however the mobile artillery assets follow a “shoot-and-scoot” methodology to avoid return fire. This makes up-to-date surveillance on the position of mobile assets almost impossible, however operations appear to be limited to a grid of 3km by 3km in a mountainous and heavily forested rural region. Captured separatist transport vehicles were used to slip behind the front-lines over night. Avoiding main routes, the trip took a few hours, with the platoon arriving in the AO at 07h00.
A. Enemy Forces:
Russian backed separatist forces, well equipped with Eastern Bloc weapons. Reference image of a captured soldier below:
Enemy forces have access to both armed and unarmed unarmored transport vehicles (technicals), armored APCs, MBTs, artillery and rotary assets. Most are deployed around the front line. Satellite surveillance indicates this area is secured by a motorized support/supply platoon. Fire support assets are made up of two or more clusters of D-30 cannons, as well as two or more BM21 rocket artillery groups.
B. Friendly Forces:
None. Zulu-Alpha has arrived in the NW of the AO.
1) Equipment: Captured separatist equipment and uniforms.
2) Surveillance: Micro UAV
3) Ground Vehicles: 1 x UAZ (unarmed), 1 x URAL transport.
4) Fixed Wing: None.
5) Rotary Wing: None.
6) Naval: None
Other friendly forces: None
C. Civilian Presence: There is a small number of civilians in the area who are expected to remain neutral during the operation.
- Locate and destroy the 2 x D-30 and 2 x BM21 groups. Eliminate/destroy any additional fire support elements discovered (if any).
- Avoid non-mission critical contact where possible.
- A QRF has not been found in surveillance, however forces in neighboring regions may move in to assist once ZA is discovered.
- Extract back to the NW insertion point no later than 09h00L or risk facing a possible QRF from neighboring regions.
- Minimize civilian casualties
