Scheduled for Sunday 21 June 2020

    Situation Time: 28 November 2001 at 11:30.

    Lighting: Late morning, daytime.

Weather: 23°C, partly cloudy with a light breeze.

Zulu Company, Alpha Platoon has been assigned a low priority mission, a high opium production farm.  However, the large Taliban force present in the area suggests that the opium farm might be a disguise for an allied Al-Qaeda stronghold.

ZA is tasked to insert with infantry squad vehicles into the south of Lythium to assault the area and destroy any large opium stores and search for Al-Qaeda intel.  Air support has been approved for the operation, and assets are provided for Ghostrider.  ZA will insert by Chinooks in LZ-01 with SOF Polaris vehicles on the outskirts of NATO Fabiano Camp.

During the last surveillance flight over the AO, a convoy was loaded and shipped out of the area. It is still unclear if weapons are smuggled along with the opium into Taliban hands.  The suspected objectives are highlighted on the map, which needs to be searched and cleared.

    Loading up the convoy.
    Convoy leaving the farm.

The area of operation is spread out over the landscape as it includes farmlands between the primary compounds.  There is a dry riverbed running from east to west through the main objective and consists of a high riverbank with rock outcrops to the south.  The farmland offers no protection when moving from the north to the south, and the only tree cover can be found south of the riverbed.

    Logistical Overview
    The Greater AO
    Zulu-Alpha LZ-01
    The Opium Farm
    QRF at the factory south-west

    A. Enemy Forces:

The Taliban has roadblocks on the periphery of the compounds, and use technicals equipped with DShKMs.  The compound sees a lot of vehicle movement, so other trucks might be equipped.  Given the fact that they have roadblocks set up, other entrenchments can be expected.

The convoy was tracked with the UAV to nearby factory south-west of the compound.  It is unclear what the relationship between the farmers and the factory is, but if a QRF is called in, it might be from the factory.

Zulu Company, Alpha Platoon is stationed at a temporary airfield in the north of Lythium.

    5. Author’s Notes:

This mission is the introduction to a new series of missions; the idea is based on the Liveth For Evermore: Military History YouTube channel and aimed at reliving them.  These missions will be diverse and range from sophisticated CQC to open small arms engagements.  I hope you enjoy them and remember the fallen heroes during these missions.

    Regards, Africa.
