The proxy war in Syria continues to escalate, with U.S. and Russian forces taking an increasingly active role in the conflict. The Rangers have stationed Zulu-Company, Alpha Platoon in the Külmez region in support of the local rebel forces. Alpha Platoon is stationed at FOB Mikis in support of the Turkish held FOB Martin near the Syrian border with Turkey. Two civilian border crossing posts, Foxtrot and Uniform, have been closed in the conflict but remain highly dangerous due to extensive mining and heavy guard by the opposing Turkish and Syrian forces in the area.
A small Syrian Army FOB stands in opposition to FOB Martin, providing a base of operation for border patrols to block any supplies or troops moving from in from this region. With the news breaking of Turkey’s action in Afrin, Syrian forces have been spotted mobilizing in what is expected to be a move on FOB Miller. The Turkish support assets/vehicles normally stationed to the South of the AO are returning from a training exercise and will take at least 1.5 to 2 hours to arrive at the border.
A. Enemy Forces:
A Syrian Army infantry platoon is stationed in the region, backed by logistics vehicles, a small continent of APC and IFVs, and one or more MBTs. The vehicles are stationed within the nearby town of Kalae Noowi.
B. Friendly Forces:
There is a Turkish army infantry platoon in the region, based at FOB Martin. The platoon will have several active patrols, as well as a guard detachment at each of the border posts. The Turkish Army in the region is supported by small continent of APC and IFVs, and one or more MBTs. The vehicles are mostly kept away from the border at FOBs further South, and are only called in if/when needed. Currently these support assets are engaged in a training exercise and have been called in, but will take around 2 hours to arrive.
