Scheduled for Sunday 21 October 2018

    Situation Time: 17:20L

Lighting: Sunrise, Sunset: 17h42, Last light: 18h18

    Weather: High visibility, partly cloudy

Islamic State (IS) forces in the Iraqi region of Lythium in Iraq, has launched an offensive this morning into the city of Arobster from their staging area on the other side of the river in Afsher. They have made significant gains, including over-running one of the Iraqi Armed Forces (IAF)  three FOBs (FOB Center), and with the momentum of the IS offensive yet to slow down, the IAF is about to lose their second FOB (FOB East) within the hour.

The US ranger unit Zulu-Alpha is stationed at their FOB in Kalae Noowi with organic lift capability and air transportable light attack vehicles has been tasked with stalling the IS offensive, relieving IAF in FOB East, medivacing their casualties back to the field hospital at Kalae Noowi and retaking FOB Center.

    A. Enemy Forces:

IS forces are made up of the Afsher cell, which is composed of around 50 infantry with several technicals in support, however, IAF observers have reported further infantry streaming into Arobster from the North and West, with the likely intention to hold territory that they have captured.

IS forces have brought in heavy weapons such as DShkMs, mortars and captured IAF weapons to consolidate their positions and dissuade counter-attacks.

Their highest concentration is the area in and around FOB Center, which they are apparently using as their beachhead for Arobster from which they are staging their aggressions against FOB East.

They are currently using mortar and HMG fire to whittle down the IAF in FOB East and are manoeuvring their forces in preparation of a final attack.

They have, however, not yet shown any intention of attacking FOB West, as it poses little threat against them at this time.

IAF forces also report receiving cannon fire (likely form a ZSU-23) from somewhere at the outskirts of Afsher, likely in the mountains to the South West, which is suppressing their helicopter operations.

    B. Friendly Forces:

IAF forces have lost the town of Afsher proper and have fallen back into their 2 remaining FOBs: FOB East and FOB West.

IAF forces in FOB East have taken heavy casualties and are at an understrength platoon level. They have several M2’s and 2x 81mm Mortars, but have lost all of their vehicles and have lost 2x transport helicopters that were stationed in their FOBs at the start of the attack. They have many wounded and have lost their platoon medic.

IAF forces in FOB West always had a small, understrength infantry platoon as it’s garrison and does not have the manpower to launch a counter-attack and IAF command has ordered them to stay and hold their FOB and not assist FOB East.

Zulu-Alpha is stationed at their FOB in Kalae Noowi
